Meteor Garden vs Hana Yori Dango vs Boys Over Flowers - Part 2
The second part of this comparison series. It's time for the female leads this time! MG vs HYD vs BOF: Makino Tsukushi
Looks Looks alone: Well again, this is comparing the actresses on their look alone with nothing to do with their HYD roles. I had some problem with this, not knowing how to compare. Should I compare how they look outside of their drama or in their drama? Anyway, this is my final decision: 1: Koo Hye Sun 2. Barbie Hsu 3. Inoue Mao HYD scores the lowest on the looks again...but it is not Mao's fault. She is just not pretty enough as compared to the other two. Hye Sun, I have to say, is the luckiest out of all of them. The other two have to endure being "uglified" to a certain extent while she is able to stay pretty. Maybe the lighting does a part as well. I chose Barbie over Mao because I am sort of biased. Barbie, in real life is truly much prettier than Mao or Hye Sun, therefore I placed her at 2nd even though her character was pretty unglam. Suitability to role: Since beauty is not the main thing about Tsukushi, the ranking would most definitely be different here. The ranking for looks alone has been the same for both the male and female leads. However, there will definitely be differences here. 1. Inoue Mao 2. Barbie Hsu 3. Koo Hye Sun As I said, Hye Sun is the luckiest out of the three, her Tsukushi being able to stay pretty. However, it is exactly that that makes her look the most unlike Tsukushi. When I saw Inoue Mao in HYD, my reaction was that she looked every bit like a commoner which was perfect for the role. I'm also guessing that is why she was picked from possibly thousands of hopefuls who wanted their big break seeing how successful the Taiwan version was. Barbie Hsu was also made to look more like a commoner although her features do not suit Tsukushi as well as Mao did. Therefore Mao wins this! (Is that a compliment or not?) Acting Yep, the most important part. As I said before, I totally despise pretty faces with lousy acting who seem to get more and more famous for reasons I do not understand. (Yes I am complaining about the Nonya girl again.) So here goes! 1. Inoue Mao 2. Koo Hye Sun 3. Barbie Hsu The 3 actually act pretty well. However, Mao wins in this category again. Like MatsuJun, she portrayed Tsukushi well, although I think that MatsuJun is really unbeatable in his acting. Her genkiness, determination, ability to stand up each time as well as her struggles between Tsukasa and Rui was brought out really well. The way she cried in front of Tsubaki was totally epic. Hye Sun won over Barbie was due to the genkiness factor. Tsukushi is supposed to be a character that holds a positive outlook in life, however, perhaps due to the scriptwriters or something, it was very much lacking in that defining quality. Barbie's Tsukushi didn't smile as much or is as cheery as the other two. In fact, I think that Hye Sun's is overly cheerful! In conclusion, in terms of acting, Mao wins it! So that concludes my review on the female leads. Next up will be the supporting characters! Labels: boys over flowers, hana yori dango, meteor garden, review On Sunday, August 9, 2009 at 10:58 PM
