Parodies galore!
Parodies are used in a large number of anime nowadays, especially comedy animes. The real reason is to increase sponsors or to keep the editors happy? I don't know, but what I know is that it definitely piles up on the comedic value!
Yakitate! Japan is probably well-known for its parodies. I can remember a few.
- During the Monaco Cup arc, the Japan reps suffered from dehydration after competition on the island. The doctor that attended to them in the anime was the main character, a vet from Running Wild. In the manga it is Doctor Blackjack.
- Godzilla appeared in the Pantasia Newcomers arc where Kazuma made his turtle bread.
- A parody to the Gundam series appeared somewhere...
- Lord of the Rings also made its appearance with "Biwa no Monogatari". In Japanese, Lord of the Rings is known as "Yubiwa no Monogatari". Biwa is Japanese for loquat.
- At the end of the manga, Kawachi becomes Dhalsim and goes on a training journey with Ryu and Ken, all characters from Street Fighter... (to be frank, I think this final parody is stupid...)
This is just listing a few of the parodies in YJ. If I had to list everything, it would take me a real long time...
School Rumble also has its share of parodies.
- In the 2nd or 3rd episode, Harima dodges Tenma's arrow Matrix-style.
- In the beginning of an episode, when Harima's manga is shown, he becomes something like Goku in Dragonball. His hair turns blonde and becomes spiky as he gathered up his power to fight evil lord Karasuma.
- When Tenma and Harima both thought of cycling to school to be closer to their crushes, a car resembling that from Initial D (the one with Fujiwara Tofu Ten, although it is named differently in SR) is shown.
- From what I saw on a site, the Ginga Ensen part is actually a parody of Galaxy Express 999.
- SR Nigakki has a ep where they had a survival game to decide what to do for the cultural festival. It resembles Battle Royale.
I only managed to catch 1 parody for Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu.
- In the ep where the boys (apart from Sousuke) tried to peek on the girls in the hot spring, one of the boys (the bespectacled one, I forgot his name) went into berserker mood, or SEED mode, an obvious parody of Gundam Seed.
Talking about parodies, who can forget Gintama! Gintama has full of parodies of other Jump comics.
- Gintoki keeps talking about bankai, obviously from Bleach. Ichigo even appears in the beginning of an ep!
- In the ep where Shinpachi was hospitalised, there were obvious parodies from drama Shiroi Kyoto.
- Yamazaki was dressed as Ryoma when he was spying, although he was regarded as a hentai by the other civilians next to him.
- Gintoki dresses as Eyeshield 21 when they were training Sadaharu.
I think that there are many more parodies in Gintama, just that I couldn't catch it. Well, not everyone knows everything right? Onwards to more Gintama!

Scary coincidence
One of the longest conflicts in South East Asia, the civil war between the Sinhalese Sri Lanka government and the Tamil Tigers have finally come to an end. It is good that the violence is over but will repression of the minority still exist?
It is quite scary to think that Gundam 00 has just ceased its official broadcast in Singapore just about a month ago. In the anime, the Celestial Beings ended the long running conflict by making both sides back off. I was thinking then the civil war will not end so quickly. Yet just not long after I have watched the show, which I also found to be pretty tragic, one of the resolved conflicts in it is actually a foretelling in reality. It is a good thing after all however, that the conflict does not stretch on for another 100 years as in the Gundam 00 timeline.
I remember this topic on Sri Lanka came out in my O Level exams. I guess they have to change many things in the textbook now to include the road to the end of the conflict.

Manchester United are champions of England again!
It took a goaless draw against Arsenal for Manchester United to defend their EPL title. Yayy! Man Utd are champions of Europe again!
I am not a true blue football fan but I have been a Man U supporter for years. Why? When the people around you are all fans of Man U while you are growing up, you will somehow become one too. I don't watch football, but I feel sad when I hear of any loss of Man U. I remember hating Chelsea when they suddenly became rich and started buying players and how they pushed Man U away from the title. I was gloating when they lost the next season. Bwahaha!
For all I can remember, Sir Alex Ferguson has been the manager of Man U and is the most successful one to date. I will always remember his outbursts as well as rivalry with Arsene Wenger. I mean how can anyone born in that era forget all about it?
Man U has borne some of the most successful players of its time. Remember David Beckham? To be frank, I am not a big fan of his. He started out in Man U then dumped Man U only to have his career spiral downward. Call it the Man U curse but it will probably happen to Cristiano Ronaldo if he ditches the club that brought him all the glory he has today. And the reports on teammates not happy with him for showing disrespect to Fergie? I think he deserves it.
I just had the urge to watch old Man U videos again yesterday. They were my favourites and probably the few matches that I have memories of. Who can forget 1999, the year history was made with Man U winning the treble. I watched over and over again the 2 comeback goals from the super subs, Teddy Sheringham and ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich. Then I watched the Great Dane Peter Schmeichel save Dennis Bergkamp penalty in the FA Cup semi final replay and Ryan Giggs running the entire length of the field to score the winning goal. Who can ever forget it?
10 years have passed and yet I still can't forget about it. Timeless classics. I would really mourn the day fergie retires...

Wisdom....Tooth
My wisdom tooth is out. How did I find out? Yesterday after lunch, I felt like there was something, perhaps a vegetable stuck right at the back at my teeth. My friend and I entered a shop that had mirrors and I used the chance to see what exactly was there. And lo behold, I saw and extra tooth!
The tooth is halfway out of the gum and strangely, is not painful at all. It just doesn't really align with the rest of my teeth that's all. It does not hurt but I think I may have to remove it. I did my research and got info that if the tooth grows into the tooth in front of it, it has to be removed so that infections don't occur. This is because there will be an area where food debris will get stuck but not cannot be cleaned off...
I'm pretty pissed actually. If I have to extract it, I will have to have porridge for an entire week!!!! Grrr....
I haven't been posting lately due to fyp and also because my layout is totally out on my laptop. Therefore, I spent my free time trying to get layouts and customising them. I found some pretty good ones but somehow they don't appear well on Blogger. And I have no idea on how to operate external style sheets on blogger so...I'm back to using blogskins...
Someone help me with css!!! Why can't it be easier to understand!!!
